Dick Mack’s 125th Anniversary Bottling from the Powerscourt Distillery
We at Dick Mack’s pub are very proud to bring you our very latest bottling,
This bottling is a nod to times past. Four generations have now piloted the train at Dick Mack’s Bar and each time we open the door to welcome you all, we remember just how much things have changed in the world but have remained the same inside our four walls.
Tom Mac Donnell opened Dick Mack’s Bar in 1899. He was stationmaster at Dingle’s light railway station. Noticing a steady stream of people leaving the town burdened with bits and bobs and supplies of all sorts, he set about opening a small bar and shop. Specialising in beers and whiskey he also sold leather goods and offered a shoe making service.
Today we still serve beers and belts and it would be an understatement to say we also sell whiskey. We are a specialist whiskey bar serving up over 250 whiskies with awards to boot! We love Irish whiskey and what better way to celebrate 125 years in business than with a special release. This release has been years in the making and as we bid ‘Sláinte’ to the future let us first remember the past. The old train tracks may have gone but we are still here to welcome you with chat, music and great whiskey.
We have been very fortunate to have been able to work with several different distillery’s over the past eight years and on this occasion, we were very lucky to have been able to collaborate with Powerscourt distillery in the Garden County. We received an ex bourbon cask from them and filled this with our coffee stout on December 11 2019. It was then disgorged & delivered back to the distillery by us on July 29 2020 where it was subsequently filled with 18 year old single malt (distilled by Noel Sweeney on Sep 24 2002), on August 08 2020. It was finally disgorged on August 23, 2024 at an abv of 54.1% and made its way to Dingle where it was lovingly hand labelled by us on September 18 2022. This is a single cask release to mark our 125 years in business and we are extremely proud to be able to celebrate and share this with you all.
